Pink Elephant Car Wash Sign, Erected 1956

The Pink Elephant Car Wash Sign was erected in 1956. The Pink Elephant Car Wash located at 616 Battery St, Seattle, WA, opened in 1951. The sign is easily visible as you drive West on Denny Way towards the Space Needle and Seattle Center – where you will find many more examples of Mid Century Modern Architecture!

My research found an April 27, 2009 Seattle Times article where the owner says the sign has been featured in a Nike Commercial and the Secret Service once stopped in to wash a fleet of six vehicles.

It’s bright, cheery, big, & pink – You can’t miss it. Enjoy this iconic sign as you head towards the Space Needle in Seattle!
