The Burke Museum dates back to 1899 and is the official Washington State Museum. The current building sits on the University of Washington Seattle Campus. The current building was constructed in 1962 and is a strong example of Mid Century Modern Design with a lovely Front Entrance.
The Burke Museum features both Long Term Exhibits and Temporary Exhibits. The long term exhibits include:
– “The Life & Times of Washington State” – A natural history exhibit of the Pacific Northwest Region
– “Pacific Voices” – Artifacts, Stories & Culture of Native American Tribes of the Pacific Northwest
– “Treasures of the Burke” – The Museum features over 16 million artifacts and specimens
While at the University of Washington be sure to check out other Mid Century Modern Architecture including McMahon Hall and Mackenzie Hall which we also list.
